Welcome!

Pack 15 is an active and successful Cub Scout pack that has been in existence for many years.  The pack consists of 8 dens with 80+ scouts and a large staff of volunteer parent leaders.  The pack meets monthly (generally, the third Monday) in a large "Scout Hut" at St. Francis United Methodist Church, off McKee Road across from the McKee Elementary School.  The dens meet individually according to their own schedule

Pack 15 is affiliated with Troop 15, a high-energy Boy Scout troop that is known for solid leadership and great outings.

In addition to monthly den and pack meetings, Pack 15 offers a year-round program of activities, including day trips, community service projects, camping trips, and other fun activities.  Pack 15 also sponsors an annual Pinewood Derby and Blue & Gold Banquet, two traditional scouting events that you may remember when you were a kid!  Here are some of the trips we have taken recently (includes pack outings and den activities):

...as well as traditional day and overnight camps, of course!

You can find a complete schedule of this year's activities here.

Introduction

Our goal is to provide the scouts with a variety of experiences geared toward developing their mental and physical abilities, confidence, self-reliance and sense of community and citizenship.  The success of the organization is based on sponsorship from St. Francis United Methodist Church and volunteers like you to help scouts have fun and grow.

Purpose of Cub Scouting
.
Boy needs:
Fun, achievement, belonging, new skills.
Parent Concerns:
Family understanding, sportsmanship, getting along with others, doing his best.
Growth Factors:
Strong in mind and body, self respect, character, spiritual feeling and citizenship

We achieve the purposes of Cub Scouting through activities we plan for the den and pack.  Den and pack activities include a wide range of games, projects, skits, songs, outdoor activities, trips and other events where the boys have fun and learn new skills.  For information on the history and traditions of scouting, please see our Scouting Links page.

Eligibility

All boys from the first grade through the fifth grade are eligible and welcome to join Pack 15.  They will be placed into a den based on their grade and age.

Advancement Through the Cub Ranks

Advancement is a method we use to achieve Scouting's aims: character development, citizenship training and personal fitness.  Everything a Cub Scout does to advance through the ranks is designed to achieve these aims and aid in his personal growth.  The Cub Scout advancement program is designed to encourage the natural interests of a boy in a natural way.  The four ranks in Cub Scouting, Tiger, Wolf, Bear and Webelos, each with its own requirements are progressively more challenging to match the increased skills and abilities of a boy as he grows older.  Advancement gives boys a means of measuring their own progress.  They learn new skills based on a standard that Cub Scouting provides.  Advancement also provides a satisfying means of recognizing boys for their progress.  There is a ladder to climb with recognition at each step.

Throughout the school year, scouts are expected to work on requirements towards achieving their ranks.

It is important that Tiger, Wolf and Bear scouts work with their parents at home and at den meetings to complete the achievements for their badges.  Webelos generally complete all requirements at their den meetings.  Books for each rank are available from the Scout Shop, then are provided by the pack upon advancement to the next rank.   For a listing of the advancement requirements of each rank, please see the Rank Overview page.

Meetings

Pack Meetings

Pack meetings, where scouts from all the dens get together, are generally scheduled for the third Monday of each month from 6:45 pm to 8:00 pm.  The agenda usually includes stories, skits, scouting awards and ceremonies, announcements and games.  During the summer months of June, July and August, the pack has outdoor activities that provide continuity to the program.   Please see our Calendar page for currently scheduled pack meetings.

Den Meetings

Den meetings are scheduled by Den leaders to meet once or twice a month where scouts work on their achievements, play games, rehearse skits or go on a short trip.

Attendance

We encourage parents (and families) to join their Cub Scout at all scout activities, including Den and Pack meetings (parent participation is mandatory for Tiger scouts).  When a boy joins the Cub Scouts, his family joins too.  Everyone will have a good time!

Uniforms

All scouts are expected to wear their "Class A" uniforms at all Pack and Den meetings.  Uniforms may be purchased at the Scout Shop in uptown Charlotte.  Advancement patches will be provided by the pack when they are earned.  Pack 15 T-shirts ("Class B" uniforms) are available for purchase and are worn for camping and other selected outdoor activities.  We also have logo duffel bags that are great for showing off the patches from all those trips!

Funding/Fund Raising

All contributions collected by the pack are directed to the funding of our scout program, which includes the purchase of badges, pins, etc., as well as food for events such as the Blue and Gold dinner.  Funds are raised through our annual popcorn sale held in October.  All shirts, duffel bags, etc are sold at (or below) cost and are not used as fundraisers.

Expected behavior of all Scouts:

Live by the Scout Promise, Law and Motto.

Parents:

The success of the Den and Pack depends on parent participation.  Each parent will be asked to participate at some level with Pack 15. Parents may participate by doing one or more of the following:

The experience and backgrounds of each parent can provide invaluable expertise to the pack and mentoring to each scout.  We encourage you to find a way to assist and participate actively in the pack.  Leadership training is available to all volunteers, and is required for certain leadership positions.  In addition, all volunteers are required to participate in Youth Training.
